"I would strongly discourage anyone from purchasing insurance through Ryan Maguire’s State Farm agency. Our experience has been an extremely disappointing lesson in what happens when a friendly insurance agent is finally asked to provide meaningful customer service.
We have faithfully paid our insurance premiums for years - read: decades. When our home suffered a loss and we encountered serious difficulties obtaining assistance, we turned to our agent for guidance and support. What we received was astonishing.
When we asked Ryan for higher-level State Farm escalation contacts, he directed us back to the same claims management team whose decisions we were disputing—and told us to contact the California Department of Insurance. Yes, the STATE OF CALIFORNIA. We were asking our own insurance agent to help us navigate his own company, and his response was to send us to the state insurance regulator instead of providing the internal escalation assistance we requested.
We subsequently called Ryan directly asking for help. A full week passed without a returned call or meaningful follow-up. Meanwhile, our kitchen remained unusable, contractors were actively working inside our home, and we were struggling to obtain temporary living assistance under our policy.
We understand that an insurance agent cannot personally approve claims. But is it unreasonable to expect him to return a customer’s call, provide meaningful guidance, or make an effort to help escalate an urgent situation?
Apparently, paying premiums is the easy part. Getting help when you actually need your insurance is an entirely different experience.
To anyone considering this agency: I would be extremely cautious about assuming that the friendly service you receive when purchasing a policy will translate into meaningful support when something goes wrong. Ask yourself what value your agent brings if, when you need assistance, you are directed to a government regulator rather than helped through the company you’re paying.
I cannot recommend Ryan Maguire’s agency. Not after what our family has experienced.
And if anyone doubts what I’ve shared here, I have the emails, correspondence, and documentation to support my account, and I’m happy to share the relevant records.
I’m giving this agency two stars because, in our experience, collecting our premium payments on time is one thing it has consistently managed to do well. I only wish the same level of efficiency and enthusiasm had been demonstrated when we needed help."
